Getting Started
Do I need an account to use Ascend Log?
Yes. Ascend Log requires a Google sign-in to store and sync your training data securely. Your workouts are private by default — only accepted friends can see your activity.
What platforms does Ascend Log run on?
iPhone (iOS) and Android phones. iPad is not supported in version 1.
Do I need to pay?
No subscription is required to log workouts, track PRs, export your data, or use any core feature. There is no paywall.
Logging Workouts
How do I start a workout?
Tap the center Chronometer button in the tab bar. It starts a new session and opens the active workout log.
How do I log a set?
Tap an exercise row to expand it, then tap the set entry row to enter weight and reps using the on-screen number pad. Tap the checkmark to log the set. RPE is optional.
What units are supported?
Kilograms (kg) and pounds (lb). You can switch units at any time in Settings — your stored data is always in kg; the display converts on the fly.
Can I add a custom exercise?
Yes. Tap the + button while in an active workout, then choose "Create exercise." Custom exercises are stored in your account and available across all your workouts.
Can I import workouts from Strong?
Yes. Go to Settings → Import → "Import from Strong" and select your Strong CSV export. The import is free.
Rest Timer
How does the rest timer work?
After you log a set, the rest timer starts automatically based on the default rest you set in Settings (or any per-exercise override from the exercise menu). A notification fires when rest is up, even if the app is in the background.
Can I change the default rest time?
Yes. Settings → Default rest — choose from 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, or 240 seconds.
What are the rest cue sounds?
Short tones play at the halfway mark, at 10 seconds remaining, and at the final 3-second countdown. They only play while you're watching the timer. You can turn them off in Settings → Rest cue sounds.
Mesocycle Engine
What is a mesocycle?
A mesocycle is a structured training block (typically 4–8 weeks) that organizes your workouts into a periodized program. The Mesocycle Engine in Ascend Log lets you create folders that group related workouts and track volume progression across the block.
How do I create a mesocycle?
From the workout log, tap the mesocycle folder icon and select "New mesocycle." You can assign workouts to it as you train.
Joined (Multiplayer) Sessions
What is a joined session?
A joined session lets two or more lifters train together and log their sets in the same shared session in real time. Each lifter sees their own sets and their training partner's, with live presence indicators.
How do I join a session?
The host shares a QR code or invite link. Tap the QR scan button in the app (camera permission required — this is its only use) or tap the shared link.
What happens to my data in a joined session?
Your sets are stored under your account, private to you (and the other session participants). If the host leaves or deletes their account, your logged sets are preserved in the session.
League and Friends
What is the League?
The League is the social feed. Accepted friends can see when you're training, your completed workouts, and recovery days — if you choose to share them. You control each visibility setting individually in Settings → Activity sharing.
How do I add a friend?
Go to the League tab → Friends, then search by @handle or share your QR code. A friend request must be accepted before either party can see the other's activity.
Can strangers find me?
Only if you set your profile to Public in Settings → Profile visibility, which requires you to first set a @handle. A public profile shows only your @handle — your real name and bodyweight are never shown to non-friends.
How do I report a user or block someone?
Use the ··· menu on a user's profile or a feed post.
Bodyweight and Recovery
Why does Ascend Log need my bodyweight?
Bodyweight is required to accurately log bodyweight-family exercises (pull-ups, dips, assisted/weighted moves) and compute their volume. It is never used for advertising.
Where do I enter my bodyweight?
Settings → Bodyweight → tap the readout to open the entry keypad.
Is my bodyweight shared?
No. Bodyweight is private by default. You can opt in to share it with friends only in Settings → Profile visibility → "Show bodyweight to friends."
What is a recovery day?
A recovery day is a logged rest or active-recovery entry. Recovery days can appear in your friends' League feed if you have that sharing turned on (Settings → Activity sharing → Share recovery days).
Data, Export, and Deletion
Can I export my data?
Yes — free, always, no paywall. Settings → Your data → "Export my data." Your workouts, sets, PRs, exercises, bodyweight log, and mesocycles export as CSV and JSON. See the Export Data page for details.
How do I delete my account and data?
Settings → Your data → scroll to the delete section → type DELETE to confirm → tap "Delete account + all data." This is permanent and cannot be undone. See the Account Deletion page for the full list of what is removed.
What data does Ascend Log collect?
Only the data you enter while training: workouts, sets, exercises, bodyweight, recovery days, mesocycles, and your social connections. Your sign-in email/name comes from Google. No advertising data, no third-party analytics (crash diagnostics are opt-in and anonymous). Full details in the Privacy Policy.
Does Ascend Log integrate with Apple Health or Google Health Connect?
Not in version 1. Training data you enter in Ascend Log is not read from or written to a health platform.
